Poor Puddy Tat.....

Tuesday, May 29, 2007

Okay you assholes, I'm not going anywhere with this piece on my head...I'm out.
Grrr...double rrrrr...

We really didn't want to put the cone on him, but he needs to give his paws a chance to heal for a few days, which means no licking. He slept under the bed for quite a while, until I lured him out with chocolate pudding, then he layed on the couch with us for about an our...and he is SO not a lap cat!

Poor guy; hopefully we can ditch the cone by the weekend so he can get back to his good ol' self..

I Miss Rocky...

Monday, May 28, 2007

Mr. Rocky The Kitty is having a sleepover at the vet tonight. He went this morning at 8 o'clock to be declawed...

Awful, we know, but we have honestly tried everything we can think of to deter him from scratching furniture and carpet; it's just a game to him.

It's amazing how obvious it is that he isn't here, man I hate it when he has to stay overnight at the vet. Ah well, he'll be home tomorrow morning and hopefully won't be too mad at us..

I need a kick in the arse!

And here it is...

I found a couple of old cameras in my dresser at my Mom's place, one of which had this picture on it. This was taken about 4 years and 20 or so pounds ago. Until you have proof, it's hard to admit that you've really put on some weight. Unless you have some pictures to compare, it's really easy to convince yourself that you just look different because of your hair style, your age, or the way you were sitting when the picture was taken.
Bridal boot camp begins tomorrow! I should just be thankful that I only have 20 pounds to lose to get back to my old self and not 120..

And then there were fleurs

Thursday, May 24, 2007

My bouquet, the girls' flowers and Calvin's boutonniere will have yellow orchids and white mini-orchids in them. They'll also have some fall-ish berry thing - can't remember the name to save my life. The Mom's and Dad will likely have flowers too, but we just didn't know what to order them.
This isn't exactly what our arrangement will look like for the guestbook table, but these are the flowers. They are called Alstemeria and they will be fall-ish colours arranged in a vase that is a bit taller than the one used for our centerpiece.

This is what our centerpieces will look like, except they will be made with white roses and have navy blue bows.
We Also got a 3 foot swag for the head table that will have all kinds of different flowers in it, most likely in fall colours. Would you believe that we are getting our wedding flowers from Safeway? We've been getting flowers from them for years and they have always been so nice and fresh...and very reasonably priced I might add; about 1/3 the cost of Growers Direct!

My Dress!

My dress is going to be very similar to the one pictured above. I also ordered a nice satin shrug to wear over top of it - since it will be October and likely chilly. It fits really nice and isn't super heavy, like some of the others I tried on. Although the poufy ones look gorgeous, I don't think I would actually be able to walk around in one of them for an entire day.

New Bedding: Round 2

Tuesday, May 22, 2007

We got this bed-in-a-bag at Wal-Mart tonight; I totally hated the one that we got from Sears, so it's already on its way back. This bed and bedding will be in our spare room when we move to the new place, so it won't be used all that much. It wasn't overly pricey a $74.99, but seems very comfortable - more so than the one we got from Sears!

Cat sold separately...

Supper

Okay, this is my first attempt at "food porn," I definitely have some work to do lol. This was the corn chowder that we made for dinner tonight; I was really good. I'm kind of wishing that I would have eaten more today though, because now I'm getting ready for bed and I'm HUNGRY! Even worse, I can't seem to settle on what I want to eat...

Our House....

So, I was looking on MLS the other night - I don't know why I'm still obsessed with it now that we've bought a place, but I am. Anyway, there are about half a dozen townhouses in the same area as ours, same specs, but the only difference is the price. These little gems are listed 5 to 15 thousand dollars higher than what we bought ours for. There's one that has a developed basement, which is listed 35 thousand higher than our purchase price...are you starting to see the point behind the cash cow? I hope so.

Even though I was extremely stressed about the whole situation a few weeks ago, I feel great about it now. The main reason for this is because I now realize that we really weren't going to get a better deal if we waited. ahh...sigh :).

New Bedding! Ooooh Ahhhh

We ordered this bedding from Sears last week and it's here. The plan is to use it on our double bed until we move, at which time the double will become our spare bed. Even though it's our spare, we still wanted it to look nice, but at a fraction of the cost of our new king. Hopefully this new bedding looks as good in person as it does in the picture; the price was right anyway, hopefully that doesn't bite me in the ass...

I'm Baaaaaack....

Monday, May 21, 2007

To the world of blogging that is. I've been ignoring my poor little blog for the past couple of weeks, because I've been on a couple of work trips and have just been uber tired. Now it's May long and I'm on holidays until the 29th, so I have no excuse for why I'm not blogging.

Calvin is off for the week too, so we're going to start packing and try to take care of a few more things for the wedding. We still have to meet with the caterer and settle on some kind of centerpiece. We also need to get a quote on flowers; we probably won't need too many, just bouquets and something for the head table.

My Mom and I are going dress hunting on Wednesday to a couple of shops, one in Lacombe and another in Eckville; we're hoping we can find a bargain lol. If we don't, the plan is to hit up the Bridal Center in Calgary on Friday and look for something there. As much as I hate to admit it, I'm actually looking forward to trying on some dresses and *hopefully* finding something that will suit me.

Have a good weekend!

Thinking of Dad

Monday, May 7, 2007

September 11th, 1948 - May 9th, 2000
Since I likely won't be able to blog on Wednesday, I just wanted to post one of may favourite pictures of my Dad - and kitty cat "Lucky"- to help me think of the good ol' days. I've definitely come a long way in the last 7 years, I've:
  • finished High School & College
  • Worked at 3 different jobs
  • had a few different boyfriends
  • gotten my driver's licence
  • got engaged and soon, married
  • bought a house

I think my Dad would be insanely proud of all my accomplishments, and I can't help but think about all of these things as "the day" approaches. Hopefully I will be busy enough on my sales course and the ritzy dinner that ATB is going to buy me, that I won't be able to be sad :).

Forced Move

Calvin took me home on his lunch break today and when he took my suitcase downstairs to my room, his feet got soaked. My room, and the rest of my Mom's basement was full of water. So we spent a few hours this afternoon shop-vacing the carpets so that they can be cleaned tomorrow.

I figure this is mother nature's way of telling me I can't live at home anymore, lol. It's fine though, I was going to move right away anyhow, I just didn't know it was going to be today. On a bright note, Calvin and I redeemed our Airmiles for $325 to Linen's n Things and $150 to Staples, which will allow us to buy some nice new bedding and a new computer desk when we move into the new house.

Here is the bedding:

We're going to get brown comforter/shams/bed skirt and powder blue sheets/pillow cases/throw pillows. I'm excited, it'll look so nice and it's 400 thread count, which will feel freaking amazing.

Here's the "prospective" desk:

Anyhoo, I've had more excitement than I can handle today. I work tomorrow and then we're off to Calgary so that I can attend a sales course. Calvin is doing the driving for me and one of my co-workers/friend because we're both pussies who refuse to drive in the city. Excuse my language, but I just couldn't say it any other way.

Happy Birthday Mom-in-Law!

Portion Control...the key to dieting
Its time for dessert!

Fire? What Fire?

The Cooks

Grandma and I eagerly awaiting dinner

Here's the birthday girl, happily sporting her "crying towel" and "over the hill" shot glass
Okay, so the pictures aren't exactly in order, but they are the best ones :). I had a good time and ate waaaaaaaay more than I should of. Tomorrow is a new day...

The Waiting Game

Friday, May 4, 2007

the mortgage has been approved, the conditions on our offer to purchase have been removed, deposit has been paid, now we wait for the mortgage documents to go to the lawyer. Apparently we don't sign on the dotted line until 2 weeks prior to our possession date; it's gonna be a long couple of months..

We have made dozens of budgets and plotted out a "pay day" calendar for the rest of the year, so that we...eh hem...I can rest assured that we will NOT be house poor. That being said, my new mantra is, "we'll be just fiiiiiiine." And we will. The amount that we were pre-approved for was $70,000 higher than what we actually ended up buying, so that in itself dictates a comfortable future.

Anyhoo, I think I'm going to slap a "rant" label on this post and call it a night!

We bought a house!

Tuesday, May 1, 2007

Okay, a townhouse, but for all intensive purposes, I'll call it a house. It's in a great newer area of town on a quiet cul-de-sac, here are the stats:

  • 1283 sq. ft. developed space
  • 4 years old
  • 2 big bedrooms + a den
  • 1 1/2 bathrooms - one of them is HUGE
  • his & hers closets in the master bedroom
  • lovely carpet in living areas & lino in kitchen & bathrooms
  • walk in pantry with tons of cupboard space
  • 5 appliances - no mic, which kinda sucks because ours is white and the new appliances are black...on the registry it goes!
  • unfinished basement - great for workout gear & deep feeze
  • We got it under list price!

Wow, this is so exciting! I'm too tired to think of anything else, but I'll add more as I think of it. I slept all of about 30 minutes last night thinking about this whole thing. I think it'll be an awesome place to start our lives with our kitty. I weighed in today and was up 0.6, but probably just water retention due to upcoming TOM - for my male readers, never mind that acronym...
